When in early 1990, the syrah took its first steps in the Greek vineyard, nobody imagined that it became the big star of international red varieties. The small, dark berries of the syrah greedily suck the sun of the Greek land and convert it to red dynamite, which have created a global sensation, achieving numerous distinctions in major international competitions.
Such is the spread of the syrah in almost all regions of Greece, which would be impossible to analyze successful character adds to the variety of each Greek vineyard. However, almost black color, dense aromas of black fruit, licorice and chocolate and exuberant, fleshy and smooth mouth is commonplace for most wines from Greek syrah. Being many times the fleet flagship of wines producers, it is natural to enjoy all the privileges of «premium» wines, such as small volume, low yields per vine, sorted by vintage, top-quality drums, etc.
But the wines from syrah reciprocate the care and with the above. Less sugary than Australian, more complex than those in southern Africa, the Greek syrah offer exceptional performance that every serious wine lovers should try.
The great red variety syrah, has not only found on Greek soil a perfect environment, with excellent results, but is the red spearhead the modern face of Greek wine, as regards international red varieties. Therefore, it is also fun, but also lesson for those who want to broaden the aroma and the taste palette and improved as a taster.
For us at DOMAINE ZACHARIOUDAKIS the combination of this great variety with the Cretan Kotsifali gave a great wine. Constitutes the flagship of the excellent wines of our Domaine. Aged in French and American oak barrels for twelve months.
